At VCC Tonight - Thursday 23rd February
23 Feb 2023 by Trent Touhy
Another outstanding performance by our 1st XI last Saturday, this time with our bowlers being able to get the job done and bring home another great win to retain a top spot on the RMS ladder. It’s a massive game this week at Vermont Reserve in the last of the home & away matches where our 1’s will take on second placed Box Hill North Superkings who are just one game behind us. Whilst we have a home semi-final already locked in, this big match from Saturday is no doubt a finals preview and playing for a top spot finish.
Our 2nd XI have an equally big task ahead of them with a must win DMS match this last round to have a hope of holding a spot in the finals. A couple of disappointing results recently has put the 2’s down into fourth spot, but with a solid side on hand ready to go they are also taking on Box Hill North Superkings and are very positive in keeping their finals chances alive.
After being short on numbers coming out of Christmas, our 3rd XI are back at a good strength of players and great to see some positive results come out of the side recently. Unfortunately it looks like this round will be their last for the season as finals chances have slipped away, so hopefully they can finish off strong against Mitcham in the A Grade match this week
Our 4ths have done it pretty tough this season too, but still managed to put a team on the park each week with a mix of the young & old boys getting out there. A special mention to the team last week who acknowledged and paid respects to John Battaglia who sadly lost his brother and closest mate. We know it’s been a difficult time for JB recently, and a credit to everyone in and around our club for supporting John and his family, and it was fantastic to see JB able to get back out on the field last week. It’s also the last game for the 4’s this week as they take on Park Orchards. Dig deep fellas, let’s bring home that one last win.
The Major Raffle tickets are selling fast, the big board is up in the rooms so make sure your name is on it with your entry to our big Day on the Green event being held on 26th March at Vermont Reserve. Tickets are $80 each for your chance to win the big cash prizes in the reverse draw, free food & beverages 🌮🍺🍸plus live entertainment 🎤 on the day. Senior players will once again get a small allocation of tickets to sell. This is our biggest club function of the year and we expect that all players and members support this event.
SUBS: Thanks to those who paid their subs last week but still quite a few outstanding. The updated list of all paid up players is published on the notice boards in the clubrooms which shows still too many players yet to pay or arrange payment of Subs. Please get this sorted if you are yet to finalise playing subs for this season.
The weekly raffles are back on again with the big meat tray courtesy of Vermont South Gourmet Meats, along with a $50.00 Wantirna Hill Club voucher. Plus, from this week, we will also include 1 x Major Raffle ticket as the major weekly raffle prize.
Maddi & Mia have got dinner sorted for tonight after training, and as always we expect everyone to stick around and support the club and your teammates. It’s a big night of selections going into our last round and a few forced changes across the teams
will see some players fighting for possible finals spots.
Another nice warm night to get to the club for a drink and a meal.
Bar open from 5.30pm, everyone welcome.
